Originally from Oceanside, New York, Attorney Jonathan Kaplan started his education at New York University (NYU), graduating in 1988 with a B.A. in political science and philosophy. Following his graduation from NYU, he went on to pursue his law degree at the University of Miami Law School, ultimately earning his law degree in 1991.
He passed the bar exam in 1991 and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. Shortly after that, he relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida to begin practicing law.
Over the course of his career, Attorney Kaplan has represented clients in over 1,000 criminal cases in the state courts and in the federal courts. He has defended clients accused of drug possession and trafficking, burglary, DUI, sex offenses, first-degree murder cases, money laundering, healthcare fraud, securities fraud and a range of other white collar offenses.
Throughout the course of his career, he has defended clients in more than 60 criminal cases, tried in state court and in federal court.
Attorney Jonathan R. Kaplan is a member of The Florida Bar and a number of professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Palm Beach Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where he held the position of director for a period of time.
Prior memberships include Inns of Court, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the First Amendment Lawyers Association.
Additionally, Attorney Kaplan routinely serves as a judge in the National Law School Trial Competition.
